More than 1600 drawings from 38 countries
were received from children and youth around the world for
the WSIS Poster Competition, organized by the World Summit
on the Information Society in collaboration with the United
Nations Cyberschoolbus. Young students enrolled in Primary,
Intermediate and Secondary School where asked to illustrate
one of the following themes:
- ICTs help people learn about the
world;
- ICTs help people appreciate cultural
diversity
- ICTs help improve our quality of
life
- ICTs make it easier for people to
participate in local government
- The many ways ICTs are used to give
and receive information
- ICTs and the digital divide
One overall winner was chosen by a panel
of judges from each of the following categories: 9-11 year
olds, 12-14 year olds, and 15-18 year olds. In addition,
3-4 regional winners were chosen from each of the following
regions: North America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Entries were judged on artistic expression, creative use
of ICTs in the poster, and how well they illustrated one
of the themes. Winning entries were displayed at the World
Summit Event on the Information Society in Geneva, Switzerland
along with entries that received an Honorable Mention.
